Lifescouts ...annnd Badges!

When I was a little girl, I always wanted to be a Girl Scout, but they didn't have an active troop in our town. So, I have always felt like I missed out on something. I mean, as a little girl, I was always involved in outdoor activities. My family camped, fished and even hunted. And the idea of collecting all of those great badges always sounded so exciting. goes on, and my desire to be a Girl Scout eventually fizzled. Then, today I came across something so great! Lifescouts! This is a collection of badges for adults and it allows you to collect badges for life experiences and share your stories with others.

Apparently, this just started this year. On their site, they show the different badges they have released for January, February, and March. From what I can gather, they are only releasing a few badges each month.

I am so so so excited about this, and I am actually thinking about ordering some of the actual badges....maybe!

So, today, I wanted to share with you guys my first badge...

The Eiffel Tower Badge

This is one of my life experiences that I am so proud of. After Christmas in 2008, my friend Allison and I took a trip together. We were in Amsterdam for New Years and then drove to Paris. While we were there we did all the great Paris things; we visited the Louvre, saw the Mona Lisa, saw the Moulin Rouge, ate crepes! We had the best time! But, my absolute favorite part of the city was the Eiffel Tower. It was so amazingly beautiful and awe inspiring. I hope hope hope that one days I can visit Paris again and enjoy the beauty and wonder of this great city!

Were you ever a Girl Scout? Did you enjoy it or hate it?

Have you been to Paris and seen the Eiffel Tower? I would love to hear your story!

James Franco is Still Adorable

I FINALLY got to see Oz the Great and Powerful! And it was wonderful!

I've got to say though, the main reason I wanted to see it was because of James Franco. I've had a crush on him ever since Freaks and Geeks. And he didn't disappoint me here either. He was still as cute and adorable as ever.

Also, I thought it was fun and interesting to get a little bit of backstory to the plot we are already familiar with. And without going into too much boring detail, there are lots of symbolic and metaphoric points of the film that could be very easily pointed out, some of them more obvious than others.

So, overall I enjoyed it much more than I originally thought I would. I honestly didn't think I would really enjoy the story as much as I would enjoy Franco, but I did. There was more substance and story to enjoy than I anticipated.

How about you? Have you seen it yet? What did you think?

My Harry Potter Fix

Well, its been a while since I've link up with the ladies that are responsible for this amazing Harry Potter link up, but I am super excited to be linking back up with them. This is such a great link-up and I always have fun with it.

So, here we go, on to this week questions...

1. Assuming you were sorted in Harry's year, which character do you think would be your best friend?

Well, I like to think that I would have been part of the cool crowd, but more than likely, I would have had more in common with Hermione. And we all know that Hermione was not necessarily one of the "cool" kids that first year. But with the love of books and a studious nature that we both have, I think we would get along quite well.

2. What season at Hogwarts would be your favorite?

Didn't even have to think about this one! Hands down, Winter would be my favorite. Since I live in the very south of Arkansas, most of the time our winters are on the mild side and our summers are unbearable. So, I would be thrilled to experience a REAL winter with snow and everything. Plus...everyone has to agree that Christmas at Hogwarts would be AMAZING!

3. What class do you think you would excel in most?

Being the nerd that I am and considering one of my double majors in college was History, I think I would do very well in History of Magic. I think I would enjoy Flying, but I'm not sure how well I would do.

4. Would you be involved in any extra-curricular activities at Hogwarts?

Well, I was a bit more athletic in high school than I am now, so I think I would have tried out for Quidditch. I might now have made it, but i think I would have at least attempted.

So, how about you? Stop by and join the link-up!

Have I Turned Into a Scaredy Cat?

I have never been a person that is afraid of many things. I am not afraid to be by myself and go places by myself. I enjoy time by myself, and I enjoy my own company.

For a while, after my first year of college, I had my own apartment and lived by myself for over a year. I was never frightened or afraid.

Now, here I am, almost thirty, and I feel like things may be changing a little bit.

Ever since Richard graduated and got his first "grown up" job, he has worked the night shift. At the hospital where he works, employees are paid a little extra to work the night shift, and with us being young and with no children, this has always worked for us.

For the first few years we were married, we lived in an apartment with good neighbors, and no major problems.

Then, last summer we moved into a house across town. The neighborhood we live in is in a pretty good neighborhood, but it is in between a not-so-good neighborhood and downtown. Because of this, on our street, we have a lot of shady and questionable foot traffic going to and from downtown. No one has ever bothered us, nor do I know of anything bad happening around here, but sometimes, I just get a little uncomfortable, especially when I am home alone late at night.

Generally, my nighttime routine consists of me taking the dog out one last time, locking all the doors, getting a shower, and reading in bed for a while. Usually, while I am reading, the dog goes to sleep on the end of the bed and eventually I doze off as well.

Well, two nights ago, things went a little differently. I was laying in bed reading and my dog went all "crazy guard dog" with barking and jumping, and growling. It is not uncommon for him to growl a little bit as someone walks by our house during the daytime, and every now and then he has let out little barks at night when people walk by, especially when we are in the back of the house and he can't see out the front window. But, he has never done this. Seriously, he was in attack-dog mode. This was around 1:30 in the morning and he would not stop barking and growling. For nearly ten minutes he kept on and kept on. When I could not get him to be quiet and lay back down, I started to get nervous. I  have never called the cops or 911, but at this point, I was seriously thinking about it. I really think that dogs can sense when things aren't right. It isn't uncommon for our dog to bark or yelp a little bit when the pizza guy comes to the door, or when someone pulls into the drive way. But, once he sees them, he usually calms down. But, this was totally different, this was not the "pizza guy" bark, or the yelp that acknowledges someone walking by. This was a "something is out there that isn't supposed to be" type of bark.

Then, once the dog did calm down and get quiet I started to get myself all worked up. I started thinking about all of those horrible scenarios of things that could happen and I could not go to sleep.

Guys, if you know me, you know this is not typical of me at all. I have never had problems sleeping, I have never been scared in my home, and I have never been nervous about the things that go bump in the night. But, this experience really made me feel uncomfortable. It made me wonder what was actually out there that the dog was going crazy over.

I don't want to be a scaredy cat and I want to continue to enjoy time at home by myself, but I don't want to feel like that again. I think this bothers me most because this is so unlike me. Do you think my thoughts here are unreasonable or unnecessary? Or am I just overreacting?

What about you? Have you ever had anything happen that really frightened you?

New Yummies In Our House

My husband is a nurse and works the night shift during the week. So, for the first few days of the week, we don't see a whole lot of each other. However, when the weekend rolls around, we get lots of quality time.

This morning when Hubs got home from work, he asked if I would cook something new for supper tonight and to wake him up in time to eat.

So, I did a little research on Pinterest and found a couple of great new recipes to try.

The first was Lemon Angel Hair with Chicken and Spinach. So, I have to give a special shout-out to The Recipe Crayon Box for this amazing recipe!

Then, I decided we might want something a little sweet to eat later, but I didn't want to do any brownies, pie, or cookies. So, I was thrilled to find the great recipe for a Snickers Salad! That's right ... a Snickers Salad! I had no idea that such an amazing thing existed! Who knew that apples, grapes, Cool Whip, and Snickers went together so well! so, here is another shout out to Lush Lounge for this hit in our house!

Thankfully, Hubs was happy with these new recipes. I think these will both be made again at some point in the future.

How about you? Have you tried any new and yummy recipes lately? I would love to hear about them.

Soon we will be back to our regularly scheduled programming... myspace graphic comments

If you didn't know, I am an instructor at a local two year college. And, unfortunately, that means from time to time my job kind of takes over my life for a little while. Since I teach English and Composition, that means I spend a lot of my time reading drafts and grading essays. And, sadly, this usually ends up cutting into my blogging time for a little while each semester. It always seems like the first half of each semester really just overwhelms me with work.

However, I am excited to finally realize that this part of the semester is gradually moving on, hopefully you will start to see me around here a little more often over the next few weeks, and ideally, by the end of the month, I will be back to a regular blogging schedule.

I love blogging so much, and I always miss you guys when I'm not around here for a while. So, I am super excited to start getting back into the swing of things and catch up on what is going on with you all.

Also, I think I may be on the hunt for a new blog's getting to be that time again. So, I'm completely open to ideas, suggestions, or tips.

Happy (almost) Spring!
