Do you see it?

Look closely.
Notice anything wonderfully surprising on this NY subway sign?
This is completely for real.
No lie, this is actually on a real sign in NY.

Interesting Post Secret

I love Harry Potter and I love Post Secret. This is one of the secrets posted this week. It really made me think about how little we really know about these huge celebrities. This actually makes me kind of sad. I know this was sent in anonymously, and because of that, it will never be known if this is true or not. But,whether it's true or not, it still makes these actors seem a little more human and a little less magical. And, it ALMOST demystifies the Harry Potter world for me....

Guess where I was last night...

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Part I

It was AMAZING!

Now, I just have to wait until July...

I wish I weren't so impatient.

Chuck IV

Let me preface: I am HUGE Chuck Klosterman fan. I love his writing and his take on popular culture.

If you aren't familiar with Chuck, he is, generally, an essayist. Most of his books are compilations of essays that he has written about various topics. He has contributed several articles to Spin magazine and has spoken at colleges across the country. His writing is interesting and enlightening.

That being said, this wasn't my favorite Klosterman experience. I think I was spoiled by Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs, his most notable collections of essays. Chuck Klosterman IV is a different type of book. Unlike his other books, this is a collection of previously published articles...mostly. The book is divided into three sections: "Things That Are True," "Things That Might Be True," and "Something That Isn't True at All."

The fist section includes interview pieces. These are articles focusing on interviews that Klosterman has conducted over a span of ten years. Some of these interviews include Britney Spears, Bono, and Val Kilmer. There are also conversations with athletes and several lesser known artists. Some of these articles are very interesting, but overall, this section seems to drag a little bit. I'm sad to say, that before finishing this section, I considered putting this book down. I rarely do that, and I've never done that with a Klosterman book. But, I'm glad I didn't.

The second section really picked things up. The essays included in the "Things That Might Be True" section are the real gems of this collection. These are Klosterman's own opinions, thoughts, and reflections on various topics ranging from a 24 hour period watching VH1 Classic to the influence that pirates have on current culture. His voice in these essays is funny, yet thought provoking. He presents some ideas that seem ridiculous, but actually, in some twisted way, can make sense.

The final section of this book seemed a bit unnecessary. It was neither bad nor good.I read it, but had no real feeling toward it. This was basically a short story, a piece of fiction. Obviously this is why is included under the label of "Something That Isn't True At All." There's really just not much to say about it.

All in all, there were some good things in this book, but it just wasn't Klosterman's best. I finished the last page with an "ehh" type of feeling. Mostly, I was just glad to be finished. And, honestly, I hate that I feel this way. I almost feel like a traitor. Hopefully, I'll feel better with his next book.

Small Town Tradition

Ok, so I live in the South. I live in a very small town, in the South. Local custom dictates that on the opening day of deer season, everyone goes hunting. And when I say everyone, I mean EVERYONE; man, woman, and child. No lie! So, in keeping with small town tradition, the husband and I went hunting today. We didn't see anything, but we had fun anyway.

I know this isn't a pastime that everyone is familiar with or could enjoy, but what can I say? This is where I'm from...this is what we do. Don't judge! *smiles*

Only 6 more days...

It has been established that I am a Harry Potter nerd. I accept this label. I love all things Harry Potter. And with only 6 days left until the premiere of Deathly Hallows part 1, I am getting a tad anxious. I am beyond excited about this movie. I haven't felt this way about a movie release in a LONG LONG time (maybe since the last Harry Potter). So, in all of my exictement I have been taking in all the Harry Potter information I can find.

In all of my recent reading, I have come across several posters for Deathly Hallows, so I've decided to share a few. Which are your favorites? Or do you have a favorite that I haven't included here?

Mini-post

I know I haven't posted much this week. I've been a bit on the busy side. This is my first year attempting NaNoWriMo and it has completely consumed me. But, as much time as I've been putting into this, I can't seem to make much progress. I'm only a week in, and I'm already behind. I'm definitely going to have to push myself to make the 50,000 word count by the end of the month. I'm going to keep working and hopefully I make it, if not, at least I'm doing as much as I can.
